How I Improved My Chances of Losing Weight After 40

Stop Over 40 Weight Gain Today!

It is a known fact that as we age we will lose muscle which will start to happen around the age of 40. Decreased muscle mass leads to a slower metabolism which ultimately leads to weight gain even if you eat a pretty healthy diet and you live a pretty active life which is what happened to me as I approached and turned 40.

I’ve always considered myself to be in good health, ate a relatively healthy diet and worked out pretty consistently as well as participated in martial arts weekly and trained for two marathons.  I didn’t understand why I didn’t have a six pack, have more muscle definition or why I my body stayed the same or I lost muscle and become less tone.  Since there were no dramatic weight gains, I didn’t worry about it too much.  Never realizing the challenges of losing weight after 40, I just continued to do what I’ve always done just thinking one day I’ll look like the fitness models I see in Oxygen Magazine.  Well, that never happened! LOL

So, what did I do to improve my chances of losing weight after 40? I started lifting weights.  I highly recommend a fitness program that incorporates resistance training into your regular fitness regimen.  As a busy mother, I do not have time to go to the gym or workout with a trainer and neither is it in my budget.  I workout at home with some of the most effective home fitness programs on the market.  If you are a woman over 40 suffering from “midlife weight gain or middle aged spread” and you want to lose weight and keep it off without spending hours at the gym then I HIGHLY recommend that you consider a Beachbody home fitness program that will help you to achieve weight loss after 40. Programs like P90X, ChaLEAN Extreme and Les Mills Pump all incorporate resistance training to build muscle and cardio to burn fat the two ingredients along with a clean diet that will help you with over 40 weight gain.

Losing weight after 40 is already challenging without a plan and a program to help you to succeed.  Beachbody has done all the work for you.  They’ve created effective fitness programs designed to help you lose weight by incorporating a nutrition plan and the free support and motivation of a Beachbody Coach.  Each program comes with a daily schedule that will tell you exactly which workout to do it will take the guess work out of creating one yourself.  All you have to do is push play every day! These workouts take less than an hour a day which is easy to incorporate into any woman’s hectic schedule.

Losing weight over 40 is not easy. I know from experience that it takes determination, support and motivation especially on those days when you don’t want to workout. But I do know that by combining resistance training with cardio I am building lean muscle, I am losing weight and I am getting super fit after 40 and no longer suffering from a slow metabolism that was caused by over 40 weight gain.  If you’re ready to commit to getting fit after 40 then send me a message because I would love to help you succeed and reach your goals.

Great article. As we get older our bodies go in slow mode and the key is to make those changes with exercise and healthier food choices to rev up our metabolism and stay on tract.

AWESOME post, Angela! Such great information here. I try to explain this to folks sometimes but find it very difficult. You did a great job spelling it all out.

So many people just accept weight gain and health issues as a part of getting older, but don’t realize they could change that by eating healthy and working out (lifting weights is key). I once read a quote that said, “we spend the first half of our lives killing ourselves, just to spend the second half trying to save ourselves”. It’s never too late to get healthy again!

Ladies don’t be afraid to pick up the weights, it’s one of the best things you can do for your body. As you get older your bones will thank you too! Strong muscles = strong bones.

Great post! It’s hard enough for some of us to even hit 40, but then to also have to lose weight? Way to get after it!

Michelle, I wish more women felt the same way. Hopefully we’ll be able to educate them on the benefits of resistance training!

Angela- this post gives me hope that when I get to 40, I will be able to keep the weight off. I want to have been maintaining my weight by the time I’m 40 for several years, but it seriously can be done. I love that you are an advocate for healthy women over 40!! Wish more were like that!

Jennifer, I believe that starting early helps you to easily keep the weight off as you age. I was always in the gym and very active throughout my 20s and it paid off because I didnt gain too weight w/my pregnancies and was able to lose it easily. You’re definitely on the right path.
