It is a known fact that as we age we will lose muscle which will start to happen around the age of 40. Decreased muscle mass leads to a slower metabolism which ultimately leads to weight gain even if you eat a pretty healthy diet and you live a pretty active life which is what happened to me as I approached and turned 40.
